Proud Mary Coffee to host Cold Brew Throwdown

Proud Mary Coffee Roasters will host its second Collingwood Cold Brew Throwdown on 27 October.

From 6pm – 9pm Proud Mary is inviting brewers, baristas, roasters and coffee hobbyists alike to compete for the title and cash-prizes.

“Our goal is to just bring people together over good coffee, provide a space were industry folks can be innovative, have fun, listen to tunes, and drink some tasty cold  brews,” says Proud Mary Training Manager Lisa Feeley.

Lisa says with the weather heating up, it’s time to celebrate the best cold brew that Melbourne has to offer.

“Cold brew opens the imagination and can be defined as your own cold concoction, a 52-hour cold drip infused with spritzers, chilled pour-over to coffee brewed and charged with nitrogen. Recipes are only limited by our imagination,” Lisa says.

The format will see competitors go head to head to present their best and quirkiest cold brew recipes. Participants must brew a minimum 2 litres of cold brew, which can be prepared prior to the competition.

During the competition participants can add any additional ingredients (no alcohol) and present a 90-millilitre cold brew drink to each of the two judges. Each brewers will be assigned a station where they can also serve cold brew sampels to the public between 6 – 8pm.

Two awards will be decided on the night. The judges will cast their vote on first, second and third-place winners. They will access the recipes based on flavour, balance of sweetness, acidity and presentation.

A people’s choice award will also crown a worthy cold brew recipe.

Last year Kiril Shajinov of Mörk Chocolate impressed judges with his Reinvented Mocha cold brew to win the inaugural Collingwood Cold Brew, while Slater St Bench’s Devin Loong won the People’s Choice category for his Balsamic Vinegar cold brew.

Entry costs $10 per competitor. Public entry is free. Spectators are encouraged to join the fun with beer ($5 cans) and food trucks available on site.

The competition will take place at 200 Wellington Street, Collingwood, Victoria.

For more information or to register as a competitor, emails your name, employer (if any) and contact number to us@proudmarycoffee.com.au prior to the event.
