Proud Mary releases third-place Ethiopia Cup of Excellence coffee

Alliance For Coffee Excellence (ACE) member Proud Mary Coffee has released its Ethiopia Cup of Excellence #3 winning coffee.

Whole beans can be purchased at their location and online for $100.

Proud Mary worked with coffee producer Tesfaye Bekele from the farm Tade GG Highland Forest Coffee in Suke Quto to produce the specialty coffee.

A coffee producer for more than 12 years, Tesfaye has travelled through Central and South America to learn the best cultivation and processing methods from those regions.

Proud Mary says that dedication has paid off, winning a Presidential Award for scoring 90+ points at the 2021 Ethiopia Cup of Excellence competition.

“We have participated in other coffee competitions, but none compares to the Cup of Excellence which is undertaken at a very high standard and with promises for better international market linkages. I am excited to win in this prestigious competition,” says Tesfaye.

This is after Cup of Excellence (CoE) announced it will host its annual Cupping the World event in Portland on December 11 from 5:30 to 7:30pm.

Led by ACE Executive Director Darrin Daniel, the unique tasting event will feature the highest-scoring coffees from all 11 of the most recent CoE competitions, including Brazil Natural & Pulped Natural, Colombia, Perú, Burundi, Rwanda, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Mexico.

The event will include tastings of the first-place winning coffees from the 2021 Cup of Excellence competition.

Guests can also sample finger foods made by Broder, natural wines, and a selection of craft beer and sparkling water.
