Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis is entering the coffee market, launching canned coffee brand Jolene with actor Shane Powers.
After meeting for coffee nearly every Thursday for more than 20 years, the two friends decided to turn their ritual into a business. The duo collaborated with friend John Terzian of the h.wood group to fulfil their mission “to bring incredible coffee to wherever people may want to drink it”.
The range of canned cold-brew beverages currently includes two products – Jolene Black: Cold Brew, and Jolene White: Oat Milk. According to the company website, the creation of the recipes was eight years in the making.
Kiedis and Powers have teamed up with international entertainment company Live Nation to help distribute the beverages, with the products appearing at 40 of Live Nation’s events across the United States.
In an interview with Forbes magazine, the frontman said: “It was a long and winding road with many high and lows and many starts and stops. But ultimately we went into a kitchen with a master roaster who was in charge of free-trade coffee beans for California. And we made the best coffee ever made on earth. We slow-dripped this beautiful bean and it got you higher than any coffee you’ve ever had in your life. We were pinging.”
