Some of the most talented baristas from across the world are set to meet on the Gold Coast for an epic barista showdown as Retail Food Group (RFG) searches for its most skilled coffee maker.

Regional finalists from Australia, New Zealand, Asia and the United States will go head-to-head on Tuesday 27 September to create their best single espresso, latte and espresso based signature beverage. Competitors will be judged on taste, technique and presentation.

RFG is also holding a Latte Art Competition on Sunday 25 September, attracting a range of skilled entrants from across Australia, New Zealand and the US.

“With more than 2500 outlets across the globe, RFG has thousands of baristas across our Gloria Jean’s Coffees, Michel’s Patisserie, Donut King, Cafe2U and The Coffee Guy brands,” said RFG CEO Gary Alford.

Gary says the competition will give baristas the opportunity to show off their skills and be recognised beyond their usual coffee house environment.

“Each of our franchise partners are dedicated to serving our customers the perfect cup of coffee, so our baristas are essentially training every day and refining their skills,” he said. “We are excited to have competitors from right across the globe travelling to the Gold Coast, and we look forward to crowning our International Barista Champion.”

The competition will take place at RFG’s Franchise Expo, taking place at the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre. The expo is a chance for the general public to find out more about RFG’s brands and franchising opportunities with a range of activities and product sampling on offer. Admission is free from 10am – 4pm.

RFG owns the Donut King, Brumby’s Bakery, Michel’s Patisserie, bb’s Café, Esquires, Gloria Jean’s Coffees, It’s A Grind, The Coffee Guy, Café2U, Pizza Capers Gourmet Kitchen and Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar franchise systems. In addition, the company is a significant wholesale coffee roaster, supplying existing Brand Systems and third party accounts under the Di Bella Coffee, Evolution Coffee Roasters Group and Roasting Australia coffee manufacturing brands.
