Ona Coffee Founder and 2015 World Barista Champion Saša Šestić has announced a sequel to his award-winning documentary film The Coffee Man.
The Coffee Man film, which first screened in 2016 and won Best Australian Documentary at the 2016 Melbourne Documentary Film Festival, followed Saša on his journey to winning the World Barista Championship in 2015. To date, The Coffee Man has screened in over 200 venues in more than 40 countries, and has been translated in 11 languages.
The new movie project, The Coffee Man Chronicles, is an adventurous series that will focus on stories at the origins of coffee, and the people who grow it, told through the eyes of Saša.
Each new instalment of the Chronicles will visit a new producing country and explore its unique culture, regions and industry of coffee production.
Saša will hear personal stories from coffee producers and discover the origins of coffee. Joined by farmers, baristas and coffee professionals from across the globe, Saša will explore exactly what it takes to create the cup of coffee we enjoy every day, and explore uncharted coffee territory along the way.
“I think it’s really important that we start encouraging more coffee films, people just connect with them,” Saša says. “We understand so much about other things in the world, like food and wine – why not coffee? The Coffee Man Chronicles is our way of sharing the story of coffee with every one in the world, in a beautiful and engaging way.”
Jenn Hann will return to produce The Coffee Man Chronicles following the success of his award-winning first film.
“Saša and I have been talking for a while about what kind of film we wanted to make after The Coffee Man,” Jeff says. “Through that film, I saw that storytelling is such a powerful tool. Telling emotional stories that inspire people are what we wanted to do. The Chronicles will allow us to go back to the farm level, to capture coffee producers in their work and to share these stories with people in their homes.”
The first instalment of The Coffee Man Chronicles is scheduled for release in 2019.
