Starbucks releases statement on Jakarta attacks

Starbucks has issued a statement saying that its Skyline building store will remain closed until further notice following yesterday’s attacks in Jakarta, Indonesia.

“Amidst reports of attacks targeting police posts throughout central Jakarta, initial reports are that an explosion took place close to our store in the Skyline building,” said the report. “One customer sustained injuries and was treated at the scene; our partners (employees) are all confirmed to be safe.”

Up to seven blasts and several gunfights took place in Indonesia’s capital on Thursday in a coordinated attack claimed by Islamic State (Isis).

The attacks left seven people dead and 17 people were wounded.

“We are deeply saddened by the senseless acts that have taken place in Jakarta; our hearts are with the people of Indonesia,” said Starbucks, in the statement.

It took security forces about three hours to end the siege near the Starbucks café, after a team of militants traded gunfire with police before blowing themselves up.
