ASCA Barista Camp returns in September

The Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA) Barista Guild will host a Barista Camp from 7 to 9 September. Participants will tour Noosa Black and attend a day of workshops at Padre in Noosaville. The camp provides baristas with a chance to learn more about Australian coffee production, as well as networking with other engaged professionals from around the country.

MICE moves dates to February to accommodate Australian Coffee Championships

The Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE) has announced it is changing dates from April to February to accommodate the 2019 Australian Coffee Championships. After MICE confirmed its relocation to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) and April dates in May, a week later World Coffee Events (WCE) established the 2019 World Barista Championship (WBC) and World Brewers Cup (WBrC) would take place mid-April 2019, leaving little time for an Australian competitor to prepare for the world competitions in Boston.  Due the unfortunate timing and MICE’s partnership with the Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA) to host the Australian Coffee Championships each year within the trade expo, the official decision has been made to change the dates to 7 – 9 February, 2019.

Soul Origin to host National Barista Championship in Sydney

Sydney will host Soul Origin’s National Barista and Latte Art Championship in Martin Place on 27 July. This year, a total of 154 Soul Origin baristas across the country participating in the Barista and Latte Art Competition.   The coffee chain’s top 10 baristas and top eight latte artists will fly to Sydney to compete in the national finals.

ASCA releases additional Cup Taster places 

Due to overwhelming demand, the Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA) will release additional places for competitors wanting to compete in the Cup Tasters Regional Championships. ASCA will increase the number of positions to 16 in each regional competition. Tickets for these additional places will go on sale at 11:00am Australian Eastern Standard time on 23 July on the event pages for Southern, Central and Northern Region events on Monday.

ASCA seeks 2019 regional competition host venues

The Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA) has announced that the 2019 regional competition season will run from the last week of August through to the first week of December in 2018. Final dates and locations will be announced by 1 July, and released with any updated rules announcements.
