Andre Eiermann’s love of coffee has taken him all around the world. Now the former Swiss Barista Champion is set to call Australia home. For the past few years, 2017 Swiss Barista Champion Andre Eiermann has barely kept his feet on the ground. In his role as a brand ambassador for the Simonelli Group, the Swiss national has travelled from Europe to the United States, Asia, and, for the first time in February 2019, Australia.

Matthew Lewin of Ona Coffee wins 2019 Vitasoy Australian Barista Championship

It’s taken six years for Ona Coffee’s Matthew Lewin to declare himself the Australian Barista Champion, and now he can. Two-time Australian Barista Champion Hugh Kelly of Ona Coffee placed second, and Anthony Douglas of Axil Coffee Roasters placed third in the prestigious event, which took place in front of a packed crowd at the Melbourne International Coffee Expo from 7 to 9 February. After competing in the Australian Specialty Coffee Association Vitasoy Australian Barista Championship finals for the past six years, the one trophy lacking from the Ona Coffee Barista Trainer’s cabinet was the big one, first place.

Sherwin Djamil crowned Soul Origin National Barista Champion

Soul Origin has crowned Sherwin Djamil as its 2018 National Barista Champion at its annual awards night in Sydney on 18 August. More than 600 Soul Origin franchise partners, staff and suppliers came together for a gala evening at the Hyatt Regency where the network reflected on its successful year and recognised its top franchise partners, baristas and stores for 2018. “Since opening its first store in 2011, Soul Origin has experienced exponential growth and this year has been an incredibly exciting one for us,” says Chris Mavris, Soul Origin CEO.
