Jia Ning Du of China wins 2019 World Brewers Cup

Jia Ning Du has become the first Chinese barista to win the World Brewers Cup (WBrC). It was third time lucky for Jia on the WBrC stage, winning the prestigious title on her third attempt, having represented China in 2016 and 2018. “I’m so overwhelmed right now but at the same time my mind is blank. I’m feeling so many different emotions,” Jia of Uni Uni Coffee tells BeanScene Magazine. “I honestly thought I’d never have the opportunity to represent my country on the world stage. It means a lot to China’s coffee industry. It’s the first time a Chinese barista has competed in this category, got into the final, and won.”

The Double Shot Coffee Fiesta has announced the line-up of its Patio Coffee Roaster Industry Stage. The City of Unley-held event, taking place on 4 November, will host a number of presentations, panel discussions and masterclasses to showcase South Australia’s coffee knowledge.

World Coffee Championships in Dubai cancelled

The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) and Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) have mutually agreed not to host the World Coffee Championships at GulfHost in September 2018. GulfHost was the host event for the World Brewers Cup, World Cup Tasters Championship and World Coffee Roasters Championship, in which Australia’s Heath Dalziel, Yama King and Ben Toovey were competing in respectively.
