Switzerland to stop stockpiling coffee

Switzerland may abolish laws requiring the nation to keep stockpiles of coffee, with the Federal Office for National Economic Supply declaring it is not vital for human survival. Under current laws, importers, roasters, and retailers are required to store bags of raw coffee in case of emergency. This includes Nestle, the world’s largest coffee buyer and roaster.

Biofilta set to launch new urban farming solution

 Cirrus Fine Coffee’s sister company Biofilta is set to display a new urban farming system called Foodcube at the Flower and Garden show in Melbourne from 27 to 31 March. Biofilta will demonstrate how to combine rainwater runoff, waste steam organics such as composted coffee grounds and food waste, and surplus city spaces with urban farming systems, in order to consistently grow fresh produce for an ever-increasing population.

Matthew Lewin of Ona Coffee wins 2019 Vitasoy Australian Barista Championship

It’s taken six years for Ona Coffee’s Matthew Lewin to declare himself the Australian Barista Champion, and now he can. Two-time Australian Barista Champion Hugh Kelly of Ona Coffee placed second, and Anthony Douglas of Axil Coffee Roasters placed third in the prestigious event, which took place in front of a packed crowd at the Melbourne International Coffee Expo from 7 to 9 February. After competing in the Australian Specialty Coffee Association Vitasoy Australian Barista Championship finals for the past six years, the one trophy lacking from the Ona Coffee Barista Trainer’s cabinet was the big one, first place.
