Detpak to make face masks in the fight against COVID-19

Detpak parent company Detmold Group will employ up to 160 extra staff to produce millions of face masks to the South Australian and Federal Governments in the fight against COVID-19. ATO: Employers need to get ready for JobKeeper now

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) says the new JobKeeper Payment has passed through parliament and it is working to assist employers access the scheme, helping them to retain their employees. The program will be administered by the ATO and will involve employers checking that they are eligible and then enrolling with the ATO to be paid the JobKeeper payments. Employers will receive a monthly payment for each eligible employee who was paid by the business during the previous month.

The National Cabinet has agreed to state and territory governments implementing a mandatory Code of Conduct relating to commercial leasing during COVID-19. The purpose of the code is to impose a set of good faith leasing principles for application to commercial tenancies between landlords and tenants. It includes circumstances where the tenant is a small-medium sized business – with an annual turnover of up to $50 million – and fits the same criteria for the Commonwealth Government’s JobKeeper program.

Coffee trader Minas Hill Coffee has announced the launch of its #wearestrongertogether (Juntos Somos Mais Fortes) initiative, which aims to help small farmers in Brazil. Minas Hill hopes to raise the awareness of Australian coffee roasters of the need to buy specialty coffee, and to buy it from small producers. This will include the trader donating 50 cents from every kilogram of coffee it sells back to its farming partner, the Association of Producers from Alto da Serra (APAS).
