Takumi Sakamoto of Deluca Coffee wins 2019 Australian Coffee Roasting Championship

Takumi Sakamoto of Deluca Coffee has won the Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA) 2019 Australian Coffee Roasting Championship, held at Criteria Coffee in Port Melbourne, Victoria from 29 to 31 May. Pat Connolly of Genovese Coffee placed second and Daniel Shadbolt of Veneziano Coffee Roasters placed third in the competition. “I’ve been roasting for six or seven years and never entered any competitions. I kind of wanted to prove something, that I can do good. I just can’t believe I won,” Takumi tells BeanScene.

Zhao Ting Wu of Cote Terra wins ASCA Southern Region Latte Art Championship

Zhao Ting Wu of Cote Terra Coffee in Oakleigh, Melbourne, has won the Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA) Southern Region Latte Art Championship, held at Criteria Coffee in Victoria from 13 to 14 October. “This has been a very long journey,” Ting Wu says. “It feels good to finally achieve what I wanted.” Aum Phithakphon of Hardware Société placed second and Victor Vu of Veneziano Coffee placed third.

Nominations for ASCA board candidates close 9 October

Nominations for Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA) board candidates and must be submitted by 9 October, ahead of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Friday 12 October at Criteria Coffee in Port Melbourne. The Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA) Annual General Meeting (AGM) will take place at 5:30pm on 12 October at Criteria Coffee in Port Melbourne. ASCA will livestream the AGM using a platform that will also allow members to vote where appropriate. ASCA says this format will allow inclusivity for all interstate members who can’t make the meeting in person.

ASCA Southern Region Coffee Championships on next weekend

The 2019 Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA) Southern Region Championship will take place from 13 to 14 October. Held at Criteria Coffee in Port Melbourne, Victoria, this is the second regional of the 2019 competition season. The Southern Region Coffee Championships will see the best baristas from VIC and Tasmania combine to compete in the Barista, Latte Art, Brewers Cup and Cup Tasters competitions.

Tilly Sproule wins ASCA Northern Region Barista Championship for fourth time

Tilly Sproule of Tim Adams Specialty Coffee has won the Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA) Northern Region Barista Championship for the fourth consecutive year. Matthew Philben of Di Bella Coffee placed second and Joshua Robertson of Seven Miles placed third. The event took place at Veneziano Coffee West End in Queensland from 15 to 16 September and also included the ASCA 2019 Northern Region Latte Art, Cup Tasters and Brewers Cup Championships.
