Renowned coffee producers Aida Batlle of El Salvador and Rachel Peterson of Panama are teaming up for a first of-its-kind collaborative tour to promote some of the most sought-after coffees in the world. Rachel and Aida will visit Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne for four events. Each will include a panel discussion, a question-and-answer session, coffee tastings and a meet and greet, where guests will be treated to cocktails featuring cascara from Aida and Rachel’s farms.

Gatukuza washing station in Ngozi has won the 2019 Burundi Cup of Excellence (COE), with a score of 90.13 for its natural processed Bourbon. It was the only coffee the international jury scored 90 or above. The Kayanza region’s Gitwenge and Karinzi washing stations placed second and third respectively with scores of 89.92 and 89.43 for their washed Bourbons.

Tarrazú region dominates 2019 Costa Rica Cup of Excellence

Don Dario of the Tarrazú region has won the 2019 Costa Rica Cup of Excellence (COE), with a score of 91.14 for its anaerobic processed Gesha. Tarrazú farms took out the top four spots in the Alliance for Coffee Excellence (ACE) competition, as well as seventh, ninth, and 10th. Don Dario’s owner, Grupo Los Grandes de Copey, is a joint venture between producers Johel Monge Naranjo and Manuel Salas Araya, which also won the 2017 COE with its farm Don Antonio. Last year’s winner, Luis Ricardo Calderon Madrigal of Don Cayito farm, placed second with an anaerobic processed Gesha that scored 91.02. Don Antonio placed third, with a score of 90.88 for its washed Gesha.

Cup of Excellence El Salvador sees 25 coffees head to auction

J. Raul Rivera of Santa Rosa farm has won the 2019 El Salvador Cup of Excellence (COE), with a score of 90.57 for his honey processed Pacamara varietal. “At Finca Santa Rosa, we proudly represent [the] Alotepec mountain range and the variety which was developed locally, and the result of years of hard work are rewarded to farmers throughout the country,” J. Raul says. “COE has created a window of opportunity for producers of coffee. Through this event, the world of coffee is evolving for better. We need to promote COE if we want to change the industry.”
