The World Surf League tours Australia every year, bringing the world’s best surfers to the country for a chance to brave the waves and claim a championship title. Under-the-counter espresso machine manufacturer BrewBar saw an opportunity to showcase its units at surf events, but hit a roadblock when the league moved to follow the waves.

NZSCA to hold array of events and educational courses

The New Zealand Specialty Coffee Association (NZSCA) has announced a range of educational courses and events to be carried out from October 2018 to February 2019. On 18 October, the New Zealand Specialty Coffee Guild (NZSCG) and 2017 Brewers Cup Finalist Sarah Stephen will Coffee Extraction Wellington, an interactive evening where the basic principles of coffee extraction will be explained. On 25 October, the NZSCG and Toasted Espresso hill host Water and Coffee Auckland, an education-focused event that explores how the makeup of our brewing water effects coffee extraction and flavour.

MICE2019 a ticket to the world

The Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE) is like the Australian Open of tournaments – it’s the first major event to kick-off the year, one of the most revered expos on the circuit, and arguably a crowd favourite by exhibitor and attendee standards. Event organisers are encouraging guests to plan their year wisely, starting with the Asia Pacific’s greatest coffee dedicated event, MICE 2019, from 7 to 9 February, before continuing onto the Specialty Coffee Expo in Boston, United States from 11 to 14 April for the World Barista Championship (WBC), and World of Coffee in Berlin, Germany from 8 to 10 June. “Next year is going to be huge,” says MICE Show Director Simon Coburn. “MICE hosts what is already considered a world-class expo, but next year we want to be acknowledged as the first must-attend event on the global coffee calendar.”

Industry Beans brings La Marzocco’s Linea Mini to Fitzroy

Industry Beans will host pop-up events to showcase the La Marzocco Linea Mini for Melbourne’s home baristas across three weekends in September. “We know that there are plenty of home baristas who care just as much about coffee as we do, so we wanted to give them a chance to experience the top of line equipment in a home-style pop up,” Industry Beans Co-Founder Trevor Simmons says. Visitors will be able to test drive the machine and chat with the La Marzocco experts.
