After more than a decade in hospitality, two-time Western Region Latte Art and Adelaide Breezey Masters Champion Josh Rivers thought he could offer something new to the Brighton community with his café Coffee Rules Everything Around Me (CREAM). Taking its name from a Wu-Tang Clan song, CREAM combines Josh’s love of hip-hop music with coffee, which has helped the café make an impression since opening four years ago.

Ziggy Varamulia of Max and Sons wins Western Region Barista Championship

Ziggy Varamulia of Max and Sons in Perth has won the Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA) 2019 Western Region Barista Championship. Rhys Woods of Lo. Ki in Adelaide placed second, and Rummy Keshet of Offshoot Coffee in Perth placed third. The competition was held at the Double Shot Coffee Fiesta in Unley, South Australia from 3 to 4 November.

To celebrate Christmas, Five Senses Coffee is giving away a Synesso Mvp Hydra espresso machine valued at $15,500. The Synesso MVP Hydra is a custom-built single group version of the commercial model used at cafés around the world. Five Senses has customised the machine with a white powdercoating.

ASCA says game on

It’s competition season once again.For the Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA) Board, this is one of our favourite times of the year. We love feeling the excitement of our members and experiencing the passion of the competitors.  The 2019 ASCA regional championships kicked off on 15 September with the Northern Region, followed by the Southern Region from 13 to 14 October, Central Region from 27 to 28 October, and Western Region from 3 to 4 November.  If you haven’t already done so, I encourage you to head to your nearest championship to see what our incredible barista community is capable of. It’s impressive to see a new generation of talent coming through the ranks, and repeat offenders who believe that persistence pays off, and indeed it does.
