Devin Loong of Ona Coffee wins second ASCA Southern Region Brewers Cup Championship 

Devin Loong of Ona Coffee has won his second Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA) Southern Region Brewers Cup Championship. David Train of Code Black Coffee placed second and Shen Choy of Cote Terra Coffee Roasters placed third in the competition, held at Criteria Coffee in Melbourne. “I’m so happy I got to use the same coffee I used at this year’s National Brewers Cup Championship and do it justice,” Devin says. “I was really sick at nationals. I couldn’t smell the aroma nor taste the coffee, and I had no voice. I had to reply on my team to present the flavour descriptors. Thankfully, I did well and I did it justice today.”

Di Bella announces merger with four enterprises

Di Bella has announced it is consolidating its position in the Australian coffee industry with the merger of four national and international coffee brands to become Australia’s second largest roast and ground coffee enterprise in Australia. Di Bella is owned by Retail Food Group, Australia’s largest multi-food franchise operator. Four coffee companies merging to form Di Bella include Di Bella Coffee, Roasting Australia, Di Bella USA and Evolution Roasters.

Veneziano Coffee’s Craig Simon set for third attempt at WBC

Craig Simon of Veneziano Coffee is ready to make his third attempt at the World Barista Championships (WBC) in Amsterdam from 20 to 23 June. Craig won the Australian Barista Championship in 2012 and 2014, and placed a career high of fourth in the 2014 WBC. After winning the Australian Barista Championship at the Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE) in March after a four-year hiatus, Craig will compete against 60 national barista representatives, using a connection of wine and the sommelier profession to impress the judges.
