Coffee Alchemy opens Gumption NYC

Hazel de los Reyes and Clare Lim of Sydney-based roaster Coffee Alchemy have opened their first roaster and café in Brooklyn, United States. “We’ve opened doors and it’s so exciting. It’s really happening,” says Clare, direct from New York. The duo’s first overseas venue, Gumption Coffee, an extension of its Sydney store, had a soft opening in late December 2018, but Clare says it’s time to make some noise internationally.

Bluestone Lane opens new NY venue as part of shared retail concept

Australian-influenced American coffee chain Bluestone Lane has announced the opening of a new location at 902 Broadway in New York. Bluestone Lane is the brainchild of Australian Nick Stone. Having moved to the city that never sleeps some years ago, Nick found that he couldn’t find a decent drop to help him stay wake. Nick took a practical approach to solving his coffee woes and opened the first Bluestone Lane in NY’s Midtown East. The chain has since spread across the United States.

Brittany Gunther of Grinders Coffee prepares for Coffee Masters – New York 2018

From 12 to 14 October, Coffee Masters – New York 2018 will see Brittany Gunther of Grinders Coffee represent Australia in the multi-disciplinary competition. This is Brittany’s second time competing in a Coffee Masters event, making the cut for Coffee Master – London 2017 last year. “I really enjoyed it the first time,” Brittany says. “It’s going to be interesting to see where my skills are at a year and a half later.”

Brittany Gunther of Grinders Coffee named Coffee Masters – New York contender

The finalists for Coffee Masters – New York 2018 have been announced, including Australia’s Brittany Gunther of Grinders Coffee. Brittany will compete for the grand prize of US$5000 (approximately $6885) at The New York Coffee Festival, taking place from 12 – 14 October. Other finalists include Anthony Knauf of Black Sheep Coffee in New Zealand and numerous baristas from Europe as well as North and Central America.

Coffee Masters – New York applications close soon

Time is running out for Australian participants to apply for Coffee Masters – New York with applications closing 31 August. Coffee Masters is a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary global barista tournamentwhich sees 16 top baristas from across the globe test their skills in six different challenges that emulate the busy working environment of a professional barista. The competition will take place at the New York Coffee Festival, which will be held from 12 to 14 October.

Coffee Masters – New York applications close 31 August

If you think you have what it takes to become a Coffee Master, then apply for the 2018 edition of Coffee Masters – New York. The competition will return to The New York Coffee Festival from 12 – 14 October at the Metropolitan Pavilion. For the chance to compete and represent your country on the world stage, interested participants must apply to compete, create a coffee-based Signature Drink inspired by New York City and showcase it in a one-to-two-minute application video. Bureaux Collective will host its second Taste Of event on 19 April, highlighting New York City coffee.
