Ona Coffee adds carbonic maceration coffee to Raspberry Candy

Ona Coffee has announced the addition of carbonic maceration (CM) processed coffee to its signature Raspberry Candy blend. “We have been working on [CM] techniques and processing for several years with our partners at coffee farms around the world,” Ona Coffee Founder Sasa Sestic says. “Last year we saw some incredible results from several of these experimental lots from Ethiopia and we are now looking for every opportunity to share them with our customers.”

Ona Coffee to introduce frozen coffee menu to ACT venues

From 2 November, Ona Coffee will release reserve coffee menus, utilising frozen coffee, at several of its Australian Capital Territory venues. “In each of our cafés, the coffee menus will feature the standard offerings of milk-based blends and single origins, as well as single origin espressos and filter coffees,” says Caity Reynolds, General Manager of Ona Coffee’s cafés.

Ona Coffee performs hat trick at 2019 Central Region Barista Championship

Angus Mackie of Ona Coffee has won the Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA) 2019 Central Region Barista Championship for the second year in a row. Representatives from Ona Coffee rounded out the top three positions, with two-time Australian Barista Champion Hugh Kelly placing second, and Joao Carlos Henriques placing third. The competition was held at Specialty Coffee Curators in Marrickville, New South Wales from 27 to 28 October.

Australian Brewers Cup Champion Heath Dalziel prepares for World Championship

Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA) Australian Brewers Cup Champion Heath Dalziel is preparing for the 2018 World Brewers Cup, to be held in Brazil from 7 to 9 November. Heath, of Third Time Lucky, won the National Brewers Cup title in March at the Melbourne International Coffee Expo. He is currently in Canberra, training with 2017 World Brewers Cup runner-up Sam Corra. He has also worked with 2014 Australian Brewers Cup Champion Devin Loong, and 2015 World Barista Champion and Ona Coffee Founder Sasa Sestic.

Project Origin opens applications for Nicaragua Farm Experience

Project Origin is accepting applications for its Nicaragua Farm Experience, to be held at Finca El Árbol in Nicaragua. El Árbol Co-Producer Claudia Lovo will host the course, which aims to educate coffee professionals and enthusiasts on the process of coffee planting, growing, processing and grading from farm to cup. Project Origin General Manager Habib Marbaani says that the course focuses not only on practical farming and processing, but on the community aspect of coffee farming.
