Coffee may contribute to heart disease, but some brews are better than others: UniSA

Researchers from the Australian Centre for Precision Health at the University of South Australia (UniSA) found that long-term, heavy coffee consumption – six or more cups a day – can increase the amount of lipids (fats) in your blood to significantly heighten your risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, some methods of brewing may be easier on the heart than others.

The South Australian Government has revealed it’s considering banning takeaway coffee cups and other single-use plastic products with the release of a new discussion paper. The Turning the Tide on Single-Use Plastic Products discussion paper seeks feedback on whether the government should introduce measures to tackle a range of single-use items, including coffee cups. The paper asks whether government intervention is required for these items and in what form it could take.

ASCA Western Regionals to be held at Double Shot Coffee Fiesta

The City of Unley in South Australia has announced it will hold its annual Double Shot Coffee Fiesta at the Soldiers Memorial Gardens on 4 November. “The City of Unley is endorsing South Australia nationally as a coffee destination and breeding ground for new talent,” Acting Unley Mayor Peter Hughes says. “The newfound appreciation for quality coffee has been made more accessible thanks to Double Shot’s connections with industry favourites.” The festival will include the Australian Specialty Coffee Association 2019 Western Region Coffee Championships, held in the Unley Town Hall, for the third year.
