Matthew Lewin of Ona Coffee has made it through to the Semi Finals of the 2019 World Barista Championship (WBC) with the highest scoring espresso after two days of heats. Melbourne to host 2020 World Barista Championship 

Melbourne has won the bid to host the 2020 World Barista and Brewers Cup Championships. More than 60 national barista champions from across the globe will descend on Australia’s coffee capital when the prestigious coffee competitions take place at the Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE) in 2020.   “We can’t wait to welcome the global coffee community to Melbourne,” says MICE Show Director Simon Coburn.

Ona Coffee to serve John Gordon’s WBC coffee

Ona Coffee Marrickville will serve John Gordon’s 2018 World Barista Championship (WBC) coffee this Saturday 7 July. Early birds to the cafe from 8am will have the chance to try the milk-based coffee John used to place sixth at this year’s WBC final in Amsterdam. The coffee is from Project Origin’s CM Selections from Ethiopia, called Jasper.

André Eiermann’s Swiss success

André Eiermann has always had a fighting spirit. As a teenager, he faced fellow countryman Roger Federer in a tennis championship in their hometown of Basel. The contest was fierce, but Roger, showing his natural ability early on, won on that occasion. That same year, Roger was asked to join the Swiss Tennis Federation and moved from Basel to a training academy, while André went to study a Masters in Economics and Political Science at university.  After graduation, André had short stints working with large international marketing companies, but didn’t find the right fit. He was headhunted by a green bean company, and at age 26 went to work with Volcafe, one of the world’s largest coffee importers.

Agnieszka Rojewska becomes first female to win the World Barista Championship

Agnieszka Rojewska of Poland has won the 2018 World Barista Championship (WBC). Agnieszka, a veteran of multiple coffee competitions across the globe, triumphed over 55 other baristas to become the first woman ever to win the title. Lex Wenneker of The Netherlands was runner up, Mathieu Theis of Switzerland was third place, Michalis Katsiavos of Greece was fourth, Cole Torode of Canada was fifth place, John Gordon of New Zealand was sixth place, and Craig Simon of Australia finished in seventh place.

Craig Simon of Veneziano Coffee makes Semi Finals of WBC

Craig Simon of Veneziano Coffee Roasters will compete in the Semi Finals of the 2018 World Barista Championship (WBC) on 22 June. Craig competed in the first round of heats on 21 June at World of Coffee in Amsterdam, taking to station three with a 15-minute routine that had the judges drinking their milk beverages with straws and swirling Craig’s signature beverage like they were at a wine bar.

Veneziano Coffee’s Craig Simon set for third attempt at WBC

Craig Simon of Veneziano Coffee is ready to make his third attempt at the World Barista Championships (WBC) in Amsterdam from 20 to 23 June. Craig won the Australian Barista Championship in 2012 and 2014, and placed a career high of fourth in the 2014 WBC. After winning the Australian Barista Championship at the Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE) in March after a four-year hiatus, Craig will compete against 60 national barista representatives, using a connection of wine and the sommelier profession to impress the judges. World Coffee Events (WCE) has announced the 2019 World Barista Championship (WBC) and World Brewers Cup will take place at the Specialty Coffee Expo in Boston, United States from 11 to 14 April, 2019. World of Coffee Berlin will host the 2019 World Latte Art Championship, World Coffee In Good Spirits Championship, World Cup Tasters Championship, and Cezve/Ibrik Championship from 8 to 10 June.
