Australian company among Best New Product winners at World of Coffee

The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) has awarded the Nexus One espresso machine by the Queensland-based Aremde Best New Product in the Commercial Coffee or Tea Preparation and Serving Equipment category. The SCA held its Best New Product and Design Lab Awards at the 2019 World of Coffee trade show, which took place in Berlin, Germany from 6 to 8 June.

World of Coffee crowns new coffee champions

The World of Coffee trade show in Berlin, Germany saw new World Latte Art (WLAC), Coffee in Good Spirits (WCIGS), Cup Tasters, and Cezve/Ibrik Champions crowned on 8 June. Manuela Fensore of Barlady Café Academy in Italy won the 2019 WLAC. Hao-Yuan Chen of Taiwan placed second and Liu Guoqiang of Sanshierli Academy in China placed third.

On 7 June, Lavazza Chief Sustainability Officer Mario Cerutti will lead a conference focusing on the Italian roaster’s approach to sustainability with a deep dive on two out of the 24 ¡Tierra! projects, managed by Lavazza Foundation. “¡Tierra! is synonymous with projects focused on the improvement and development of coffee farming communities from an economic, social and environmental point of view, as well as a range of premium blends, containing coffee from communities involved in the sustainability projects and grown in Rainforest Alliance certified coffee farms,” Mario says.

Agnieszka Rojewska becomes first female to win the World Barista Championship

Agnieszka Rojewska of Poland has won the 2018 World Barista Championship (WBC). Agnieszka, a veteran of multiple coffee competitions across the globe, triumphed over 55 other baristas to become the first woman ever to win the title. Lex Wenneker of The Netherlands was runner up, Mathieu Theis of Switzerland was third place, Michalis Katsiavos of Greece was fourth, Cole Torode of Canada was fifth place, John Gordon of New Zealand was sixth place, and Craig Simon of Australia finished in seventh place.
