Tickets are now available for contestants, judges, and latte art lovers to attend a virtual workshop that will provide a greater understanding of the rules and regulations of the 2021 Meadow Fresh NZ Latte Art Championship.
Held from 7pm to 9pm on 18 August, the New Zealand Specialty Association (NZSCA) hosted workshop is designed for any individual who wants to compete, coach, or judge in the 2021 latte art championship.
The workshop will break down each scoring category, with reference to the Rules and Regulations from World Coffee Events, helping competitors to prepare.
Latte art will not be taught at the workshop, with the event consisting of lectures and power-point presentations with a Q&A. This workshop is, however, compulsory for any individual who is considering judging for their first year.
The Meadow Fresh New Zealand Latte Art Championship 2021 will be held on 26 September with the winner proceeding to the World Latte Art Championship.
The 2021 NZ Championship will consist of two rounds: a preliminary and a final round.
The preliminary round will see competitors take the stage for eight minutes, creating two identical free-pour lattes and two identical designer lattes. The highest-scoring six competitors will proceed to the final round.
The final round will see each barista create two identical samples of latte art for three different beverages. Two of these sets will be free-pour lattes and the last set will be a “designer pattern latte”, which can incorporate etching or surface decoration techniques. The first two sets may be made only with a jug of milk.
Workshop attendees will receive a pre-test prior to the day, getting each member to “think in terms of the rules within the championship”.
