Toby’s Estate announces Enrique Lopez as June Knowledge Talks speaker

Mexican coffee producer Enrique Lopez of Finca Chelín has been announced as the next Toby’s Estate Knowledge Talks speaker for 2018.

Enrique will tour Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth from 4 to 7 June, presenting on the new frontier of processing in Mexico.

Enrique will reveal to audiences how he experiments with new processes and varieties.

Enrique is known in the coffee industry as a pioneer of processing, and someone who is pushing Mexico’s specialty coffee scene in a more sustainable direction.

His farm, Finca Chelín, is certified carbon neutral. It produces high-quality coffee, which is grown in an environmentally friendly manner.

In 2004, Enrique won first place in the International Certified Organic Competition, organised by the Mexican Coffee Council and the Organic Crop Improvement Association (OCIA) Certifier.

Enrique says winning a total of several competition to date, including first place at the 2015 Best of Oaxaca cupping, and being a finalist in others – nationally and internationally where the quality of coffee is rewarded – remains a career highlight.

“I have never been [to Australia] but I have read and heard very positive comments about the quality of the coffee that is consumed. Even two year ago Melbourne was considered the world’s capital of quality coffee,” he says.
