The Borrow by Huskee reusable cup system has been launched across three coffee vendors at Sydney’s Carriageworks Farmers Market, with 1500 reusable cups to be rotated across the three vendors.
The implementation of the system by Single O, Reuben Hills, and Colombian Coffee Connection will see an estimated thousands of single-use cups diverted from landfill each day.
All 8oz and 12oz hot drinks will be served in the cups, which will then be returned to one of two smart Borrow Bins at the end of the market. The cups are then collected and professionally washed at Huskee’s St Peters WashHub before returning to circulation.
Huskee Co-Founder, Saxon Wright, says it’s time to flip the script of single-use items.
“For too long, reuse has relied on customers remembering to bring a cup or ask for one,” says Saxon.
“What we’re doing at Carriageworks flips that entirely. Reuse becomes the default, and single-use becomes the exception. That’s the shift the industry needs.”
Single O Co-Founder, Emma Cohen, says implementing scalable reusable cup systems like Huskee is a practical way the coffee industry can cut takeaway waste.
“We’ve always believed reuse should be the default,” says Emma.
“No opt-in, no guilt for forgetting to bring your reusable. Just coffee in a cup that doesn’t get used once and thrown in a bin.
“That’s what this is.”
