Sydney roaster White Horse Coffee will represent Australia at the Golden Bean World Series in Guatemala from 17 to 20 February.

The White Horse Coffee team will be submitting two entries for the competition, which consists three categories: Espresso, Milk-Based, and Filter.

Entering the Espresso and Milk-Based categories is End of the Line – Cronulla Beach Blend. The bespoke blend includes beans from Ethiopia, Burundi, and Colombia, and was crafted to encapsulate the taste of summer, with a surprise note of coconut at the finish. The name is a shoutout to South Sydney icon Cronulla Beach, which is the last stop at the end of the train line – hence ‘End of the Line’.

In the Filter category, the team will be entering Colombia El Diviso Aji Bourbon Washed. Notes of pineapple, jalepeño, and cherry combine to create a truly memorable coffee with a distinct flavour profile.

Ahead of the competition, White Horse’s Head of Coffee Dominick Majdandzic says he’s feeling very humbled to have earned a place following being crowned Overall Champion at the Australian competition in 2024.

“So many roasters enter that comp and to even get a silver medal is an amazing achievement with the standard raising higher and higher every year. To take home the big ticket was an amazing feat for the team and a nice pat on the back for us all. How do you say ‘Tickled Pink’ in Guatemalan?,” he says.

“We have stringently tested End Of the Line against the exacting standards of the Golden Bean and it tastes great. What’s even more amazing is that we will be there immersed in the stupor and splendour that is the Golden Bean.”

While in Guatemala for the World Series, the White Horse Coffee team will embark on a 10-day tour of the surrounding coffee farms, and local cultural icons including an active volcano.

“I’m excited to be competing in the World Series. I know competition will be strong on the international scene, so I hope we will do well in this space. I think we put our best foot forward with the coffees we are entering,” says Head Roaster Brian.

Roaster Conan adds: “I’m feeling a mix of excitement and anticipation. The team has put in so much effort to produce these coffees, and I’m proud of what we’ve achieved. Regardless of the outcome, I’m looking forward to sharing these coffees with our community and hope they enjoy them as much as we do.”
