The location of the 2027 World Roasting Championship has been announced, with World of Coffee New Orleans hosting the stage for a new champion to be crowned.
The announcement of New Orleans as the host city for the 2027 event marks a return to the United States following the 2026 competition being held in Brussels, Belgium. The 2025 World Roasting Championship, won by France’s Mikaël Portannier, was held in Houston.
“Bringing the global specialty coffee industry together in this way reflects the core of the Specialty Coffee Association’s work, acting as a catalyst for progress, connection, and excellence across the specialty coffee value system,” says Specialty Coffee Association CEO, Yannis Apostolopoulos.
“By hosting World of Coffee and the World Coffee Roasting Championship together in New Orleans, we’re creating a powerful platform to elevate craft, unlock opportunity, and drive the industry forward through shared knowledge and innovation.”
Danny Andrade of Blackboard Coffee Roasters is currently preparing to take one the world at World of Coffee Brussels for the 2026 World Roasters Championship later this year.
Andrade, with a score of 548.33, defeated a podium of Phu (Peter) Lam (524) and Ikbeom Kim (463) at Melbourne’s Criteria Coffee to earn his place in the 2026 edition of the competition.
Australia’s representative at the 2025 edition of the competition, Amber Cheng from Code Black Coffee, finished fifth overall in Houston.
