The 2026 World Coffee Championships (WCC) season will kick off in the Middle East following the announcement that World of Coffee Dubai will host the Cezve/Ibrik Championship (CIC).
Held at the Dubai World Trade Centre between 18-20 January 2026, the Specialty Coffee Association says the upcoming World of Coffee Dubai is anticipated to be the largest in the event’s history since launching in 2022.
The Cezve/Ibrik Championship sees competitors utilise one of the world’s oldest coffee brewing traditions that is typically seen across Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa.
The cezve, also known as the ibrik, is a small pot with a long handle and distinctive flared brim. Traditionally it is crafted from copper, brass, or ceramic.
“We are truly honoured to welcome the Cezve/Ibrik Championship to Dubai,” says National Coordinator of the UAE Coffee Championships, Khalid Al Mulla.
“This event represents more than just competition – it’s a true celebration of tradition, craftsmanship, and cultural connection.
“Bringing it to the UAE reinforces Dubai’s position as a bridge between the coffee cultures of the east and west.”
The addition of the CIC to World of Coffee Dubai means the 2026 WCC season will span five cities in five separate continents.
After January’s event, the WCC will head to World of Coffee San Diego for the World Latte Art Championship in April, and World of Coffee Bangkok for the World Cup Tasters Championship in May.
June’s World of Coffee Brussels will host the World Brewers Cup, World Coffee Roasting Championship, and World Coffee in Good Spirits Championship, before World of Coffee Panama crowns the season with the World Barista Championship in October.
The 2025 World Cezve/Ibrik Championship was won by France’s Charles Boyenval at World of Coffee Geneva. He was the third Frenchwinner in a row following Jordan Tachnakian’s win in 2024 and Pierre de Chantérac’s win in 2023.
