CafeSmart is hosting multiple events to celebrate the start of CafeSmart 2023. CafeSmart, under the umbrella of Streetsmart Australia, is an annual fundraiser for homeless and community projects. To date, the event has helped distribute close to $2,000,000 across more than 1000 grassroots homelessness organisations.

This year Axil Coffee is hosting a fundraising event at its Melbourne Central store on Tuesday, 1 August.

“Having been a part of CafeSmart for a number of years, it’s a great way to give back. It’s been a great initiative combined with the Australian specialty coffee community to do our bit to help with homelessness,” says 2023 Australian Barista Champion Jack Simpson.

As part of the launch event led by Axil Coffee, Jack Simpson will be pouring coffees for the public from 12pm to 2pm, and all small size coffees will be free of charge, to inspire the public to donate the cost of their coffee forward to Cafesmart.

There will be a prize pool valued at $1700 from La Marzocco, made by Fressko, Vitasoy, Moccamaster and Axil Coffee to giveaway among generous donors.

Toby’s Estate is also hosting a fundraising event at its 25 Martin Place location on 1 August. All coffees poured from 10am to 12pm will be offered free of charge and people will be encouraged to donate the cost of their coffee forward to CafeSmart.

Attendees at both events will have the opportunity to purchase a CafeSmart and made by Fressko reusable cup and get it personalised at a pop-up engraver at both locations. 100 per cent of the proceeds from the cups sales will be donated to CafeSmart.

“It’s great to see coffee industry brands getting behind this annual fundraising event and helping us increase our funding support to local grassroots homeless charities, especially during the current cost of living crisis,” says Cynthia Mac Caddon, Partnerships Manager at StreetSmart Australia. “It’s community-led events like this one that create life-changing impact, and it’s all through a cup of coffee.”

Donors contributing during the Sydney event will go into the running to win a Moccamaster Classic machine, smiley made by Fressko cups and a Toby’s Estate Coffee Gift box; a total prize pool valued at $700.

CafeSmart 2023 will run from 1 to 7 August, as part of Homelessness Week 2023, at more than 650 cafés around the country. Melbourne has more than 30 venues taking action against homelessness through this campaign.
