Danes Specialty Coffee will host the second annual International Grand Latte Art Championship (IGLAC) on Friday 19 August in Sydney.

The event, taking place at Chatswood‘s Victoria Bar & Grill from 5pm – 9pm, will see the region’s top baristas showcasing their artistic flair and competing for the title of top latte artist.

“Australian baristas are a truly talented and creative group. Latte art celebrates the creative side of the industry, as well as the fact that milk-based coffees continue to be a popular choice amongst specialty coffee drinkers,” said Paul Jackson, Danes Specialty Coffee Managing Director.

This year’s judging panel will include Australian Specialty Coffee Association’s (ASCA) 2015 Central Region Latte Art Champion Jibbi Little, Sean McManus, and popular Instagram barista Timothy Sweet. Defending champion Sam Taylor will be back competing against other talented coffee artists to a bid to secure the title for another year.

The IGLAC will consist of three rounds of competition beginning with one knockout, elimination round that sees competitors create one latte art creation from an e-wheel. Winners from round one will proceed onto Round Two where the format sees each competitor create two creations, one from the wheel, and one signature latte art creation.

The Final Round will see the last four artists standing from the round two Preliminary Finals face off with their signature latte art creation.

Riverina Fresh milk and SanRemo Australia are sponsoring the event, which features a prize pool worth more than $10,000.

First place will win $3500, second place will win $1500 and third place will win $500 in cash and a share in more than $5000 worth of Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) classes, WFS water filter, Cafetto products and more.

Tickets are $30, and include a beverage upon arrival, canapés and desserts. Registration for the competition is included with ticket purchase.

All door proceeds are to be donated to Hope Global
