The launch of Single O and Reground’s Giving a Puck campaign in Sydney has already diverted more than 4000 kilograms of coffee grounds from landfill, the roaster says.

The program, which was first introduced to Melbourne in 2023, launched in Sydney at the start of November 2025 and has initially involved a string of notable local venues in its pilot program, including Three Blue Ducks, Happy Fields, Soulmate Coffee, and Superfreak.

As of 18 November 2025, Single O says Giving a Puck Sydney has diverted a total of 4510 kilograms of coffee grounds from landfill, which equals the equivalent of the spent coffee from 125,278 lattes saved.

The diversion of this waste from landfill has resulted in the saving of 8569 kilograms of emissions from entering the atmosphere, as the high heat experienced in landfill promotes the release of methane into the atmosphere.

All the spent grounds diverted from landfill have also ended up being used as fertiliser for community gardens in the areas where the cafés taking part operate.

Single O and Reground’s Giving a Puck program will be fully launched in April 2026, where cafés from all over the city will be able to get involved.
