The timber decking and pergola stretched alongside Intermezzo Café is the perfect Australian setting for the countryside café. Located in rural Wangaratta, Intermezzo Café is a flourishing business, which is well known by the locals for its coffee, food, and service.

Manager and Head Chef Dameon Holmes took over Intermezzo Café in August of 2016 and has witnessed the café bloom.

“When I first started, we would go through 12 kilograms of coffee beans a week, but that has almost tripled since then as nowadays, we are using nearly 40 kilograms per week,” Dameon says. “Our staff have doubled as well due to the on-going business we are getting from not only locals, but travellers too.”

Dameon puts the café’s impressive growth down to good service and even greater coffee.

“We offer four different types of coffee beans to create various hot and cold drinks, including our cold drip which we use over ice and for iced coffee, which is popular during the warmer months,” he says.

Using Grinders Coffee Roasters and the Rancilio Classe 9 coffee machine, Intermezzo Café serves customers Grinders’ Organic medium roast, single origins, and decaf beans.

“The Organic medium roast is our most popular flavour as it contains chocolaty characters,” Dameon says. “However, if you’re after something a bit stronger, we recommend Grinders’ single origin collection, which adds a little more punch.”

Intermezzo Café serves fresh meals daily including all-day breakfast, focaccias, salads and burgers, all made with locally grown ingredients. It also runs a catering service to surrounding events and functions.

“We bring our fresh food and coffee to events around Wangaratta and can cater up to 150 people, which is something we are extremely proud to deliver,” Dameon says.

To boost crowds even further, live music is often played on the outdoor timber decking, which is popular during summer.

“We thrive during warmer nights as live music alongside our fresh food and coffee are the perfect combination for our customers,” Dameon says.
