Dominic Pellegrino, Director of Mocopan Coffee from 1982 to 1995, is set to release a new work of non-fiction detailing the history of Melbourne-founded coffee roasters and houses.
Publisher Melbourne Books has acquired the rights to publish the book, titled Melbourne Coffee Roasters, which will feature the history of roasters in the city including Vittoria, Pellegrini’s, and Moccona.
The publisher says the book pays “homage to the immigrants who, in the aftermath of the Second World War, brought their traditions of coffee roasting with them”.
Acquiring Editor Georgia Cooper says the book is a must read for anyone seeking to gain a deeper insight into Melbourne’s historical coffee culture.
“This book is such a gem for anyone looking to get into the fascinating history of coffee in Melbourne and how that niche history intersects with the wider histories of Australia and post-war immigration,” she says.
The release of Melbourne Coffee Roasters is currently planned for the middle of 2026.
