A new membership-based coffee roasting facility has opened in Sydney’s southwest suburbs, featuring five-storeys of roasting, cupping, and packaging technology.
Located in Roselands and built by Di Pacci Coffee Company’s Michael Rababi, The Roasting Club labels itself as “Australia’s largest members-only coffee roasting hub”. The space houses a 48-tonne IMF green bean silo, a 24-tonne IMF roasted-coffee silo, 240-kilogram and 60-kilogram IMF roasters, and a 300-kilogram IMF blender – supplied by IMF Australasian agent Roastquip.
The $25 million facility also features a range of amenities including a member’s lounge, a cupping lab with a 14-group La Marzocco Modbar setup, and hireable events and function spaces.
“It’s a facility for the people of Sydney and surrounds who love coffee and want to be involved in the industry,” says Michael.
“There were a lot of reasons we went with IMF roasting equipment. The small footprint of the equipment was a major factor. We also chose IMF because of the quality construction, accurate control of temperature and the recirculating heat technology that saves gas. It’s a full turnkey solution with silos, blenders, and packaging machines that communicate to the coffee roaster.”
Members can either bring their own beans to roast or select those already stocked on site, while education and training sessions are also available through the facility.
Memberships start at $99 per month for individuals and scale up for medium and large enterprises.
“I wanted to make it as accessible as possible for everyone and felt even a small roaster could afford $25 per week,” says Michael.
