A new movie detailing the journey of Pellegrini’s Espresso Bar is set to hit big screen around Australia in December, with Pellegrini’s: A Melbourne Legacy by Frank Lotito showcasing everything about the iconic venue.
The documentary film will premiere on 2 December at the Astor Theatre in St Kilda, before a national release of 4 December in Palace Cinemas in Victoria, New South Wales, the ACT, Queensland, and South Australia.
Pellegrini’s is a staple of Melbourne’s coffee and café scene. Founded in 1954, it claims to have been delivered the first espresso machine in Melbourne’s history.
Nino Pangrazio and Sisto Malaspina took over the venue from Founders Leo and Vildo Pellegrini in 1974. Now, Sisto’s son, David, manages the venue.
“We’re beyond proud to share something truly special – Pellegrini’s: A Melbourne Legacy, a beautiful new documentary by Frank Lotito celebrating the heart, history, and humanity of our iconic espresso bar in cinemas,” a social media post from Pellegrini’s says.
“This film captures everything that makes Pellegrini’s what it is – the laughter, the stories, the family, and the generations who have found a piece of themselves here.”
Director Frank Lotito has also heralded the film as “a love letter to Melbourne”.
