Marking its 15th year, CafeSmart’s 2025 campaign to tackle homelessness in Australia will take place from 2 to 8 August across the country.

Since 2011, CafeSmart has used coffee as a force for good. The week-long campaign sees coffee shops, cafés, and roasters across Australia raise awareness and money to fund localised charities that support those facing homelessness. What began as a grassroots movement has become a nationwide initiative, raising just over $210,000 in 2024.

This year, CafeSmart organisers hope to smash last year’s sum by raising $300,000 to provide urgent support to more than 11,500 people facing homelessness in Australia.

“We’re aiming higher than ever for CafeSmart 2025. Last year’s energy was incredible, and we want to build on that momentum to create an even bigger impact,” says Liz Bayrak, Campaign and Events Coordinator at StreetSmart.

“Our dream is to see cafés from every community rally together, supporting people at risk in their own neighbourhoods and proving just how powerful coffee can be in driving change.”

The mechanics of the campaign are simple: from 2 to 8 August, cafés across the country will raise awareness about homelessness in their communities. Then, on Friday 8 August, they’ll donate $1 from every coffee sold.

“Cafés are more than just places to grab a coffee – they’re community hubs and that connection gives them the power to drive real change. Year after year, they step up, bringing their teams and customers together to make a difference. Despite the challenges the industry has faced, their generosity and enthusiasm have never faltered,” says Liz.

With registrations now open, the CafeSmart team are determined to make this milestone year the biggest and most impactful yet. With the continued support of principal sponsors Vitasoy and La Marzocco, alongside supporting sponsor CoffeeTools, the campaign is set to reach new heights.
