Sydney will host Soul Origin’s National Barista and Latte Art Championship in Martin Place on 27 July.

This year, a total of 154 Soul Origin baristas across the country participating in the Barista and Latte Art Competition.

The coffee chain’s top 10 baristas and top eight latte artists will fly to Sydney to compete in the national finals.

Finalists will be critiqued by a panel of judges including ASCA Australian Barista Championship Head Judge and former World Barista Championship Head Judge Ross Quail, ASCA President and World Accredited Latte Art Judge Brent Williams, and 2018 ASCA Australian Latte Art Champion Shinsaku Fukayama of St Ali.

“Soul Origin is very excited for our national barista finals next week in Sydney. We would love for coffee lovers and Sydney-siders to come along and check it out. There will be some great prize giveaways and activities to participate in on the day as our top baristas and latte artists take to the stage and battle it out for the national titles,” says Soul Origin National Barista Trainer Sam Taylor.

“We have been so impressed with the extremely high standard of competitors this year. We have some fantastic prizes on offer for them and a stellar line up of guest judges attending as well.”

Along with the prestigious title of first place, the winner of the Soul Origin Barista Championships will receive an all-expenses paid trip for two to visit The New York Coffee Festival in October.

Second prize is a tour of a coffee farm in northern New South Wales, including education on growing, processing, roasting and development of coffee farming. Third prize is a tour of Melbourne’s coffee hot spots and an intimate education session at Soul Origin’s coffee roasting and processing facility.

The first-prize winner in Soul Origin’s National Latte Art Championships will be flown to Melbourne to receive a personal latte art master class with Shinsaku.

“We take our coffee very seriously at Soul Origin and are proud to invest in personally training our baristas across all 97 stores across Australia. Our highly trained baristas and a strong understanding of the coffee delivery process is a real and genuine point of difference for us at Soul Origin and we look forward to sharing this with Sydney siders next week,” Sam says.

This is the third year that Soul Origin has run a National Barista Championship.
