Leisurely Coffee’s ‘Benny’ Ka Chun Shek came out on top at the recent South Australian (SA) AeroPress Championship, with a brew crafted from Colombian coffee beans supplied by Harvest Town Coffee and roasted by PATIO Coffee Roasters.

The SA Championship is part of a global circuit leading up to the 2025 World AeroPress Championship, which will be held in Seoul, South Korea, from 5 to 6 December. Following his win, Benny will now progress to the National Championship which will be hosted at Fieldwork Coffee in Melbourne.

Camilo Pineda finished in second place, while Renz Anicete rounded out the podium in third.

The SA heat was held at PATIO’s Richmond café-style cellar door, with more than 100 people in attendance. Founding Director Basil Papas praised the coffee community’s engagement in the event.

“The atmosphere was electric – it was such a thrill to unite SA’s local coffee community at our roastery cellar door,” says Basil.

After just three competitors were active in the first ever World AeroPress Championship in Oslo in 2008, more than 5000 participants from 60-plus countries now compete.
