Hospitality company The Grounds, is opening a new venue called The Grounds of South Eveleigh in 2022, which will house an event space and a state-of-the-art coffee roastery.

The industrial roastery, titled The Grounds Coffee Roastery, will engage patrons in the coffee-making process from bean to brew and will offer behind-the-scenes tours, coffee workshops, and sell freshly roasted beans.

This will be available to all, from customers curious about coffee to wholesalers. Guests will be invited to see the bean from its rawest form to the roasting and brewing stages.

These will be led by The Grounds’ team of baristas, with the venue offering options for a casual ‘classic with a twist’ breakfast or lunch. This is inspired by the site’s historical canteen.

“It’s been an amazing journey at The Grounds over the last nine years, I never imagined that my love for coffee would lead me to travel around the world visiting coffee farms and leading a state-of-the-art roasting facility like this. It really is something special,” says Head Roaster Nick Ferguson.

The building will also hold The Eveleigh, which is an event room that offers a “breathtaking backdrop to celebrate life’s special moments”. With high ceilings, industrial chandeliers, and a historical building, The Grounds says the venue is timeless and effortlessly enchanting.

“We want to create something incredibly beautiful for the site and for Sydney – it’s not just a hospitality venue, it will be a space where time almost stands still,” says Ramzey Choker, Founder and Director of The Grounds.

The new venue is the result of a six-year collaboration between The Grounds and Australian property group Mirvac.

“The Grounds of South Eveleigh is certainly becoming the place where culture vultures go, thanks to Mirvac’s bold reimagining of the former Australian Technology Park,” says The Grounds.

“[We are] creating guest experiences that will complement the rich heritage of The Locomotive Workshop — a site that celebrates the golden era of revolution and industrious spirit that drove Australia forward.”

The venue is located in South Eveleigh, described as Sydney’s newest hotspot for all things arts, food, and culture, where history meets revolution.

“The stories of South Eveleigh’s fascinating heritage are being retold in these incredible new spaces being brought to life by our visionary partners at The Grounds,” says South Eveleigh Portfolio Manager, John Fairbairn.

“We’re thrilled to welcome this new venue to South Eveleigh, and we look forward to the opening, which will bring an exceptional level of activation and excitement to the precinct.”
