A hole in the wall café serving Square One Coffee is one of five hospitality venues set to be opened by The Mulberry Group at Hannah St Hotel.
Founder of The Mulberry Group, Nathan Toleman, has extensive experience in developing cafés and venues for Melbourne’s hospitality sector, inculding the likes of Richmond’s Top Paddock, South Melbourne’s Thee Kettle Black, and Bourke Street’s Higher Ground.
In addition to opening Hannah St Coffee at the new hotel, The Mulberry Group will also be opening Coupette Corner Bar & Bistro, Bar Hannah, The Carriage Lounge, and Terrace Lounge.
Toleman says an “obsession” with hotels from an early age has led to the creation of the new project.
“From a young age, I’ve been obsessed with hotels – the excitement of checking in, exploring every corner, and discovering the magic of each space,” he says.
“With Hannah St, we wanted to capture that same sense of wonder and excitement, but with a Melbourne heartbeat.
“A place that feels alive, authentic, and inclusive – not just for travellers, but for locals too.”
The hotel is being developed by Time & Place and forms part of the landmark Queensbridge precinct.
Time & Place’s Tim Price says The Mulberry Group’s involvement with the project means the food and beverage options will be tapped into what makes Melbourne tick.
“Partnering with The Mulberry Group means the hotel’s F&B will be led by a deep understanding of the neighbourhood and what works at a boutique level,” says Tim.
“We like the idea of celebrating our state in our menu choices, of being Melbourne in the way our bar works, or our little secret hideaway works.”
The $150 million, 188-room hotel is set to open this summer in Southbank.
