Kaue Oliveira Silva of Happyfield Haberfield has won Toby’s Estate’s Swirl Club Sydney finale, which took place on Thursday 20 October at its Alexandria Warehouse.

Harry Lin of Meet Mica placed second and Adrian Timothy Dumbrique placed third.

This marks the first latte art competition Kaue has won. His first-place prize includes a $800 MasterCard gift card, Swirl Club Coffee ‘Thug Passion’, and Swirl Club Bucket Hat. Kaue will also receive a one-on-one roastery tour experience, filter tasting, and in-depth talk with Toby’s Estate roasters on its approach to blending, roasting and quality. A filter bar experience inside its Chippendale Flagship location will also be offered.

Harry will receive a $500 MasterCard gift card, Swirl Club Coffee ‘Thug Passion’, and Swirl Club Bucket Hat.

Adrian will be awarded a $300 MasterCard gift card, Swirl Club Coffee ‘Thug Passion’, and Swirl Club Bucket Hat.

According to Toby’s Estate, the Swirl Club finale was the largest Swirl Club event to date, with over 70 attendees and competitors in attendance.

Judges on the night included 2022 Australian AeroPress Champion Rawirat Techasitthanet, better known as Jibbi Little of Jibbijug, Michael of The Alternative Dairy Co and Linda Maksic of Toby’s Estate.

Swirl Club is a latte art smackdown competition where 12 to 16 baristas go head-to-head in a knockout format. Competing pairs are picked out at random from their polaroid photos in a hat. There’s a total of four rounds, and one dead heat round for two competitors to compete for third place.

For each pair-up, there are three dice which determine what latte art pattern the competitors will pour, along with what milk and in what vessel.

Toby’s Estate thanks sponsors Slayer Espresso and The Alternative Dairy Co.
