Zarraffa’s Coffee is relaunching its Peru Ayni Single Origin bean as part of its commitment to ethical and sustainable sourcing.

The drive-thru coffee brand initially introduced The Peru Ayni Project back in 2023, the sales from which helped fund the installation of raised drying beds and stock housing for the Jose Olaya Cooperative to help empower smallholder farmers in Peru.

This is the first time Zarraffa’s has revisited a specific bean in its Single Origin evolution.

Zarraffa’s Coffee CEO Marnie Sheldon says the company is revisiting the bean due to the relationships the business has cultivated in Peru.

“When we first launched Peru Ayni two years ago, our investment in their infrastructure was only just beginning to take effect and it was a relationship we planned to nurture,” Marnie says.

“As we return to the region for a second time, we can now see how that early support has been realised, translating into tangible, lasting improvements for these farmers and their communities.

“As a brand, we’re proud and honoured to have played a role in improving this producer’s processing methods and strengthening the co-op’s local economy as we continue on this shared journey.”

Zarraffa’s says its Peru Ayni single origin holds a flavour profile of baker’s chocolate, blackcurrant, and black tea, with a caramel and nougat finish.

The Jose Olaya Cooperative comprises of about 270 coffee-growing families and produces Fairtrade and organic beans, with some reaching specialty status.

Peru is currently expected to produce around 4.35-million 60-kilogram bags of coffee in 2024/25, which would account for two per cent of global production.
