For the second year in a row Aldi’s Lazzio coffee range has been awarded the Canstar Award for being the Best Retail Coffee in Australia.
The annual review saw 899 Australians complete surveys between April to June 2022 on coffee brands they had purchased to grind and brew. The survey rated brands based on taste, aroma, texture, packaging, variety, value for money, and overall satisfaction.
The supermarket brand received five-star reviews for taste, variety, value for money, and overall satisfaction, also achieving four stars for aroma and packaging appeal.
Produced by Black Bag Roasters under the Nomad Coffee Group, the Lazzio range includes 100 per cent Arabica Fairtrade Organic Certified ground coffee that comes in either Peru or Honduras variety.
Below are the best brands of coffee found in the Canstar Blues 2022 review, with each brand meeting the minimum survey sample size of 30 responses.

- Woolworths
- Harris
- Gloria Jeans
- Caffe Aurora
Grinders and Coles Urban Coffee Culture were the only brands to achieve a five-star review in the packaging appeal category. Grinders also achieved five stars, alongside Gloria Jeans, for taste.
A majority of brands achieved four overall stars, with Woolworths, Harris, Gloria Jeans,
and Caffe Aurora achieving three overall stars.
Further findings from the study saw 43 per cent of participants report they consistently brought the same brand, with 31 per cent preferring their home brew over barista made coffee.
The survey also found that 42 per cent of participants preferred to make their coffee at home, rather than buying it outside. The study also reported 16 per cent of participants go out of their way to buy the coffee they like.
