Sustainable packaging brand BioPak has announced the acquisition of Queensland packaging company Bygreen.

Australian-founded BioPak is B Corp certified and produces compostable packaging including takeaway coffee cups, lids, and food storage containers. Bygreen has operated within the sustainable packaging space for more than 30 years and produces one of Australia’s longest lasting paper straws.

BioPak CEO Gary Smith says the acquisition will help Bygreen progress its international market ambitions while growing its domestic footprint.

“Bygreen has built a reputation for quality, integrity, and innovation, values that align closely with our own,” says Gary.

“This is a company that has been at the forefront of the sustainable packaging sector for more than three decades, and we are proud to build upon its legacy through our new partnership.

“Together, we will have an unmatched level of expertise, drive, and passion to meet the growing demand for sustainable alternatives. Our vision has always been to lead with purpose, offering the most comprehensive sustainable packaging solutions that support a circular economy, and we are truly excited to welcome Bygreen to the BioPak family to help continue this mission.”

Bygreen’s product range, including EcoStraws, Strong Straws, One Tree Cutlery and Utensils ranges, and Palm Leaf Tableware, will now be integrated into BioPak, along with its client base.

ByGreen CEO Mick Krause will continue to play a strong role alongside the team following the acquisition.

“We’re proud of what we have built at Bygreen and excited to be joining forces with a company as purpose driven as BioPak,” says Mick.

“With the environment at the heart of everything we do, this partnership opens the door to new opportunities, greater impact, and long-term sustainability. Joining forces with BioPak will also accelerate our growth and strengthen our shared commitment to reducing plastic waste, on product at a time.”

In April 2024, BioPak acquired reusable cup brand Huskee to advance the brands’ shared mission of promoting environmental sustainability and putting the planet first.
