Byron Bay Cookie Company, a partner of the Australian Red Cross Blood Service, has joined forces with Three Blue Ducks Rosebery to raise awareness of the need for Australians to donate blood.

To support the International Missing Type campaign on 16 August, Three Blue Ducks is inviting Sydneysiders to its new Rosebery café to discover their blood type with the Australian Red Cross Blood Service and to make a pledge to give blood.

Patrons are invited to try the specially made Byron Bay Cookie Company dessert created by talented chefs Mark Labrooy, Darren Robertson and Andy Allen. It uses the official cookie of the Red Cross. This mouth-watering dessert, available for one week only, is a special creation of sticky date and mandarin pudding with choc ganache, Byron Bay Cookie crumb and vanilla bean ice cream.

The International Missing Type campaign has seen Byron Bay Cookie Company and Three Blue Ducks join iconic names worldwide as they drop the key blood type letters A, O and B from their names to encourage Australians to consider what it would be like if their blood type went missing.

“We have been providing Byron Bay Cookies to the Australian Red Cross Blood Service for years for donors to enjoy after giving blood, so we’re proud to be part of the International Missing Type Campaign and do our part in raising awareness of the ongoing challenge in recruiting new donors,” says Emilie Emond, Marketing Manager, Byron Bay Cookie Company.

In Australia, a blood donation is needed every 24 seconds to provide life-saving treatments to patients. That’s 25,000 every week and 1.3 million every year.

“To meet patient needs, the Australian Red Cross Blood Service needs 100,000 new blood donors to give blood for the first time over the next year and that is why the International Missing Type campaign is so important in bringing to light this need,” says Alyson Pearce, National Marketing Director of Australian Red Cross Blood Service.

Mark LaBrooy,  Chef and Co-owner of Three Blue Ducks says the majority of people know someone who has been in need of a blood donation, and encourages patrons to get involved.

“A good friend of mine was the recipient of a lifesaving blood transfusion following a head on motorbike collision with a car, so the importance of giving blood hits very close to home,” Mark says.

The Byron Bay Cookie Company Dessert will be available at Three Blue Ducks Rosebery from 16 – 21 August.
