After a sell-out run in 2017, Mr Black’s Festival of the Espresso Martini returns in May with a new look and new title – the Caffeine Festival.

The Cargo Hall in Circular Quay’s Overseas Passenger Terminal will be transformed into a temple of food, cocktails and coffee experiences for three days of festivities, taking place from 25 to 27 May.

“The Mr Black team is back again, fuelling Sydney with world-class coffee cocktails, tasty food and a guaranteed good time for the second consecutive year,” says Mr Black Co-founder Tom Baker.

“Our aim has always been to bring top producers together under one roof for an all-out, all-things coffee party. The festival’s about more than just one cocktail (the Espresso Martini), and changing the name to Caffeine really reflects that ambition.”

The Everleigh will be bringing its Melbourne establishment to Sydney for the festival, hosting drinkers in the Everleigh Golden Age Bar, serving its classic Coffee House bottled cocktail.

Monin gourmet favourings will once again host the Boozy Coffee Shop, and Fever Tree will host drinkers at the Botanical Bar.

Drinks may very well be at the top of the itinerary, but guests can also expect tasty eats from the likes of antipasto pros Salt Meats Cheese, and burgers and fried chicken courtesy of Crows Nest’s Johnny Bird.

The opening night of the Caffeine Festival also coincides with the inaugural lighting of the Opera House sails for the launch of Vivid’s 10th anniversary.

“It’s a brilliant time of year in Sydney, and there’s no better place to take in all the lights. With a drink in hand, of course,” says Tom.

Tickets range from $30+BF, on sale via Eventbrite.

  • Victoria: don’t stress. The Caffeine Festival will head to Melbourne from 16 to 18 November at Meat Market. Lock it in.
