The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) has elected Mary Tellie and Inyoung Anna Kim to its Board of Directors to fill the vacancies left by the resignations of Alberto Polojac and Guy Burdett.

The SCA Board thanked Polojac and Burdett for their valuable contribution to the formation and hard work of the association in its first year following unification, and said both would be greatly missed.

Polojac resigned in December 2017 from his role as a Director and his post as Chair to the Sustainability Advisory Council. Burdett resigned in January 2018 from his roles as a Director and Treasurer.

Kim will serve the remainder of Polojac’s term to December 31, 2019, while Tellie will serve the remainder of Burdett’s term to December 31, 2018, and will also assume Burdett’s position as Treasurer for this period.

Tellie founded Electric City Roasting Co. in 2003 and Zummo’s Café shortly thereafter. She also served as Chair of the Roasters Guild Executive Council from 2016 to 2017. As a licensed Q Grader and Cup of Excellence and Brewer’s Cup judge for more than a decade, Tellie is committed to supporting the specialty coffee industry.

Kim established LetSequoia, a social entrepreneur based in Rwanda, D.R Congo and Korea that focuses on the development and empowerment of local populations through the creation of economic activities. She graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and specialized in International Development.

Kim also served on the International Development Committee for the Speciality Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE) from 2015 and in 2017 was appointed as a Steering Committee member of the African Fine Coffees Association.

The 2018 elections for the SCA Board of Directors are also coming soon. In accordance with the association’s bylaws, six new Board members are due to be elected later this year.

This election will be the first to take place at the Board level since the unification of Specialty Coffee Association of America and the SCAE in 2017.
