Luiz Rodriguez Saldanha, Co-founder of Capricornio Coffees, will speak on the Matão Women in Coffee project at an event held at Veneziano Coffee Richmond on 20 September.
The Women in Coffee project consists of 24 female coffee producers from Matão, Brazil who have seen their quality increase through selective picking. In 2015, the group placed first in the Paraná quality contest with a lot produced by Eloir Nogueira de Souza.
Like many producers, these women had not tasted their own coffee until recently. They now undertake cupping education programs, learning to identify lots that stand out in quality.
In the future, the group wants to continue to increase the quality and production of its coffee, as well qualify and prepare themselves to identify their own coffees.
The event will finish with a cupping of some coffees Veneziano selected from the project.
